NAPNAP Revises Position Statement On Reimbursement For Nurse Practitioner Services

The National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) recently revised a position statement on Reimbursement for Nurse Practitioner Services. This statement affirms that Nurse Practitioners must receive equitable reimbursement from all payers in order for them to provide the communities they serve with the full scope of healthcare services. Nurse Practitioners are highly prepared professionals whose educational programs are grounded in specialized scientific and theoretical knowledge obtained in graduate level education with expanded clinical skills. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs), in particular, have enhanced the health care for children and families for decades by providing comprehensive services in a variety of settings. "NPs are highly skilled clinicians that must be recognized and reimbursed for the same services that physicians provide. The limitations on coverage and payments hinder the nurse practitioners" ability to practice to their fullest potential" said NAPNAP President Michelle Beauchesne, DNSc, RN, CPNP. NAPNAP supports legislation that advocates full and equitable reimbursement for NPs from payers for services rendered in all health care settings. The complete position statement can be found here.
