Dehydration (from the Greek hydor (water)) and the Latin prefix de- (indicating deprivation, removal, and separation) occurs when more water and fluids are exiting the body than are entering the body. With about 75% of the body made up of water found inside cells, within blood vessels, and between cells, survival requires a rather sophisticated water management system. Novavax Completes Enrollment Of Its Second Phase II Seasonal Influenza VLP Vaccine Clinical Trial
Novavax, Inc. (Nasdaq: NVAX) announced that enrollment has been completed in the second Phase II clinical trial of its trivalent virus-like particle (VLP) seasonal influenza vaccine. This Phase IIa randomized, placebo-controlled study is evaluating a VLP vaccine against the H3N2, H1N1, and B influenza strains that circulated in the 2008-2009 influenza season. This clinical trial represents another step in the development of Novavax"s VLP seasonal influenza vaccine, allowing further evaluation of safety and immunogenicity of a broad range of vaccine doses against a new set of influenza strains. As announced in December of 2008, the first Phase II study evaluated a trivalent VLP vaccine against the seasonal influenza strains that circulated in the 2005-2006 influenza season.

Westminster Kingsway College Launches New Access To Higher Education Programme In Pharmacy And Biomedical Sciences

Westminster Kingsway College has launched a new Access to Higher Education programme in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at its new King"s Cross Centre in central London. The College is already a leading provider of Access to Higher Education courses in London as well as specialising in courses for Pharmacy Technicians in conjunction with the University of London"s School of Pharmacy and Birkbeck College. The new Access programme in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences will be focussing on those who are looking to progress to university courses in Pharmacy or Biomedical Sciences and the course has been developed in partnership with the School of Pharmacy at the University of London. Candidates will need to have some aptitude for science and maths already and it is preferable that they have been working in a medical or healthcare environment but they may have been out of education for some time or be looking to change their career. The one year Access programme will offer modules in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Study Skills. Specialist modules in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences include the action and uses of drugs; defence against disease; training in laboratory skills and health-related calculations. These modules will prepare learners to apply for university programmes in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. Candidates will study in brand new science facilities at the College"s King"s Cross Centre. The learning environment provides facilities through which learners will develop the skills and knowledge they need for their next step and the aspirations to ensure it is a rewarding one.
